I live in US and have an India passport. i m interested in opening a multi-brand shop in India with mostly designer brand merchandise accessories such as handbags, watches, belts etc which i would like to import from US into India. Most of these brands are not available in India in general ( some of them are local US designers available only in US) Can i import this into India given i m not an authorized dealer of these brands ? if so what is the range of duties ?

This is sandeep here from Jaipur (India). I am into business of hospitality an lifestyle related products. India is an emerging market for such products. The opportunity is immense. You can very well import such products and sell them into local market. There is good demand for such products. As far as duty is concern, it depends on the product category and specification. I can send you the duty structure once i can see the product list. You can open the retail stores in such cities like Jaipur, Gurgaon, Pune, Kanpur etc. .
