Wine import into hong kong

Hello,

I am thinking importing wines into Hong Kong and would like to verify the following:

1)  I have read that Hong Kong allows "No hassle import and export of wine", meaning that all duty related administrative controls have been removed.  Therefore, are there any licenses or forms which i should be aware of prior to me beginning shipping wines from Europe into Hong Kong?

2)  I am looking for a recommended list of refrigerated wine freight transporter companies, willing to pick up stock from Hong Kong airport and deliver to my destination of choice.    Any good candidates?

Thanks,

Mark

Imports of wines into Hong Kong does not require any license or permit. With effective from June 6, 2008, under the amended Dutiable Commodities Ordinance, Cap. 109, Hong Kong wine/liquor traders are no longer required to apply for any licenses or permits for the import, export, manufacture, storage or movement of wine or liquor with an alcoholic strength of less than 30 percent by volume.

As regards locating freight companies with cold storage facility we would recommend you use the customized Business Marching Service provided by hte HKTDC, which helps global customers search, identify and screen potential Hong Kong business partners. Check here for more details of the service, or you search directly on the sourcing website of the HKTDC by keying in freight or forwarding.

Hello Mark,

We are a logistics service provider with temperature controlled storage facilities in Hong Kong trained to handle wines as it is one of our lines of business. In fact, depending on where in Europe your wine is from, we'll be able to assist you with transporting your wines from the actual vineyard and delivered to the destination of your choice. Do take the opportunity and share more details of this project with me, and I'll be glad to assist you. My email is luciano.tse.hkg@unique-logistics.com and our website is www.unique-logistics.com

Thanks~

Luciano

Hi Mark,

I am not sure if you have already started importing wines to HK, but yes you are correct in your assumption that it is a relatively easy process due to the Government abolishing tax on alcohol under 30%.

A packing list and commercial invoice are usually enough to keep customs happy, however you do need to complete an import declaration form to ensure the Government can keep track of what is coming into Hong Kong.

I work for a German logistics company with their own offices in all major producing countries and have myself been working with importers since before there was zero tax in HK, so can help provide both logistics solutions and insight into the local market.

Please feel free to email me on - Paul.duffy@hk.fb-log.com if you would like more information.
