I intend to set up a wine company that deals in importing wines from France, US & Australia into China. As I read from this website: http://www.wines-info.com/en/new.aspx?news=5415 Do I need to change all imported labels into Chinese label? Is there any consulting firm that can arrange all necessary paperwork with the authorities stated here: http://www.wines-info.com/en/new.aspx?news=5412 to get all certificates? What is the nearest port near Shanghai and any government link company that has bonded warehouse storage for Wines to recommend? |

I am an American attorney. My wife and I also have a home in Beijing. We are going to open a fine wine shop in Beijing and I am going to import fine wines (mostly from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany) into China. A Google search for "importing wine into China" led me to this SME Forum. Please have the person with similar objectives contact me at the email address below. We share common objectives and can perhaps help one another. Thank you. pbwlaw@sbcglobal.net |

For enquiry on locating a consultant company and bonded warehouse in Shanghai, we would suggest you contact the Shanghai Sincere Commercial Consultation Co, recommended by the Shanghai Foreign Investment Commission. |

The importation of wine is similar to other retail package food importation. Chinese label must be pasted before final import into China. My suggestion is to use FTZ as a bridge to do this kind of job. Of course, sampled and tested by the Quarantine Bureau is also a must, as you need the sanitary license to import your wine from the FTZ. |

Hello, I have been browsing the forums trying to find a good starting point. I have a Chinese business contact that is interested in importing wine from several small wineries in the US. I would be working as the broker in this deal. He is already importing wines into China, I would be procuring more for him. Where is a good place to start looking for information? Thank you. |

for sonoman 12 Feb: We would recommend you browse through all the websites mentioned in the forum and get a rough idea about the China market for wines, its law and regulations, duty and tax and labelling requirements etc and come back to this forum with more specific queries on the subject. |

These appelations are already world famous for their quality. I am now working in Shanghai (China) and looking for an importer and reseller who desires fine wines. To Newtrader: Yes you would need licenses to import liquor into China. Some of the required licenses will depend on the products. For instance tequila products would require additional license to the health certification because it is produced by agaves plants. If you need more help on this issue please write to ravni@sohu.com |

China 2009 import duty and consumption tax for the following alcoholic beverages: beer – zero import duty, consumption tax 200-250 RMB per tonne; wines and sparkling wine – import duty 14%, consumption tax 10%; liquors like whiskey, gin, vodka etc. – import duty 10%, consumption tax 20%. VAT 17% will also be levied on all imported wines and liquors. |

New Zealand with its Free trade agreement with China now has just 8.4% tariffs and this will be down to 0% by 2012. So not only does New Zealand produce arguably the worlds best Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir it's Merlot and Chardonnay are also making a big impression. With zero tariffs by 2012 and NZ's growing reputation as a premium wine producer it is a sensible option for those looking at importing into China. more info on the market and NZ wine contact. info@nzliquorresources.com |

Hi, I've read as much as I can, but still have a couple of questions: 1. How is tax calculated? i.e. $100 bottle of liquor + 10% of 100% Import Duty = $110 + 20% of $110 Consumption tax = $132 + 17% of $132 VAT = $154.44 2.How is tax calculated? Import tax is 10% of what price?? Price I paid to the UK wholesaler?? 3. At what point are taxes paid? Do I have to pay all three taxes (import, consumption & VAT) before customs will release the products? 4. Do I need a license to import whisky from UK to China? If so, what is this licence and where can I apply. 5. What is labelling?? Does this mean I need to register all products with import/export bureau?? I sincerely hope you can help with these enquiries. Mike |

My HK company has a representative office in Shanghai. We are going to establish a WFOE in Shanghai to import vodka, brandy and another spirits. Before to start this registration we would like to deliver in Shanghai some samples for testing and promotion purposes. It's about 1-2 boxes (6-20 bottles per box) of 18-20 different types. The total is about 20-40 boxes. As I know any importer needs to have some license for import and arrange Chinese labels on every bottle before entry to China and custom clearance. Also we have to obtain a certificate from quarantine inspection. My question: 1) can we use our RO in Shanghai as consignee for the samples? 2) are these requirements I noted above enough? 3) may somebody recommend a reliable custom broker/advisor company which can help us to arrange the first trial deliveries and be our regular broker in future within WFOE trading activity? |

for Dimas: 1) Yes your RO can act as consignee of the wine sample goods you mentioned. 2) Labelling requirements on wine samples for promotion and wine tasting can be waived. |

What is the import tariff for Apple Cider? Is there any other taxes, such as VAT, to be collected at Chinese Customs? If we only send in samples for personal use instead of re-selling, do we still need to pay all the tariff and taxes? |
