Author Topic:   Import tariff of brand new cars

I'm planning to import a new VW Golf V to China/ Beijing.
First question: I heard the tariff will be lower within every new year according to the WTO. I want to know the actual tariff right now?
Second question: Volkswagen China told me every type of imported cars need a certificate of safety test from Chinese authorities. So no certificate no import possibility. Is it true? How to arrange or apply these certificates if necessary?

Imports of passenger motor cars in China are charged at a rate of 30% import tariffs in 2005, irrespective of cylinder capacity, and 17% value added tax. Imports of motor cars are subject to inspection and automatic import licence control, and also to USED machinery and electrical products import prohibitions. If you are non-resident you will need approval from local Administration for Industry and Commerce.
