I have ordered accessories for my camera worth around $350 from lensmate, USA. Though I am presently in UAE, I am getting the goods delivered to India. I would like to know if there would be delay in customs clearance, what would be the charges that I have to pay etc.

for Kalpesh Kakadiya: The India Baggage Rule is extremely complicated. In general for an passenger (more than 10 years old) returning India after staying abroad for more than 3 day is entitled to Rs 25,000 (in value) duty free allowance. Duty free allowances of two or more passengers cannot be added up (pooled or combined) to bring more goods duty free to the country. Duty is charged currently at 35.7% for value of the goods in excess of duty free allowance. Please check here for official website showing details of the the baggage rules in India.

Dear Moderator, First of all, let me appreciate the help you doing to people like us. I am in real need of your help. Recently I purchased one medical instrument for my father from UK based company through online purchase. They already charged me for product and shipping. Now they are asking me to confirm to dispatch and agree to pay whatever local duty is at our end. I asked them to at least give me figure so that I can evaluate what would be the right choice for me. They are not aware about it. I don't know where can I get this information. Instrument is for personal usage and not to be sold. Can you please help me and let me know what would be the duty amount? They are shipping it through DHL (Air Cargo) Thanks for your help.
